Lara Herscovitch
Sept 7, 3:00 PM

A singular singer-songwriter-poet-performer, author, policy social worker & former State Troubadour of Connecticut.
Lara earned a Master’s in Social Work Policy from the University of Connecticut, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts. She grew up in New York and lives in Connecticut, where she was selected by the Office of the Arts to serve in the honorary position of State Troubadour (think poet laureate, only music), 2009-2010.
The perspective & wisdom in Lara’s artistry comes from decades of humanitarian work in education, community development, environmental protection, and justice system reform. This depth of experience & commitment resonates throughout her music, all traveling on a voice that Performer Magazine called “clear and smooth like expensive liquor."
If you read the “About the Author” page in her Shine Sister Shine book (hello, awesome you!), you know that Lara loves cats, bats, rabbits, and (other people’s) dogs. And New England autumn, jasmine tea, the smell of vanilla, Italian balconies and evergreens -- one of her favorite childhood spots was her grandfather’s Christmas tree farm in Maine.

Sophie Buskin
Sept 18, 7:00 PM
Sophie Buskin is an alt-folk artist based in New York City, crafting songs that live at the intersection of memory and transformation.

Her debut EP Sweet Creature topped the Roots Music Report’s Alt-Folk chart in 2019, and was praised for its lyrical depth and emotional honesty. Sophie’s first full-length album is set for release in early 2026 and marks a bold new chapter in her evolving sound.
Folkus-NYC.org’s passion is supporting artists. Three generations of the Lowe family—Jeff, Carol, Matt, Brianna and Jonathan—collaborate to bring singer-songwriters, creators of original Americana, Folk, American-roots, Blues, Jazz, and World music to audiences at the Brooklyn Art Haus in Williamsburg. Artists perform in a dedicated listening room that recreates the warmth of a house concert. Following the concert, guests and artists enjoy social time and snacks from The Mouth, BAH's restaurant, in the comfortable lounge. Folkus-NYC invites music lovers of all genres to join us at BAH for this unique and intimate music experience.

FolkUs-NYC is proud to continue their mission to #SupportLiveMusic. We'd like to encourage our guests to support our friends at Hudson West. Hudson West is a group passionate about music and has been deeply involved in presenting music over the years in Jersey City and Manhattan. Established in 2016, they have enabled fine musicians to earn a living from their art. Their mission includes ongoing efforts to help the community hear high quality music and gain a greater appreciation.

Hudson West Fest annually holds an all-day music festival but has also expanded its music programming over the years to include Music Workshops, a Talent Search, Open Mics, Free Concerts presenting local musicians, and School Music Programs.
